Go Kart: A Fast Date

Go Kart racing is so fun. We went to Boomland Kart Trak at Boom na Boom to try out the Go Kart there. The track is wide so you can really do fast turns without worrying too much on hitting the walls. It is very affordable compared to other go kart tracks.

Boomland Kart Trak is very affordable but comes with draw back. The karts are not that nice. The suits and helmets are worn and sometimes thorn.  But none the less it was fun racing with friends. For those don't know how to drive, you can still ride the go kart as a passenger. They have go karts with two seats.

The kart of made of sturdy thick metal frame that will protect you incase you accidentally bump the karts infront, behind and beside you. The kart also has a low point because of the low center of gravity and its small wheels so the dangers of toppling over would not be of any problem even for big heavy people such as myself. The contraption then has buckets seats that prevent you from swaying to the side of the kart might put your arms in danger. These buckets seats have side guards for this purpose. Then the seatbelts obviously act to keep you in your seat. The helmets are rented so as to protect your head just incase anything still goes wrong. Lastly the course has rubber tires near the curves so incase you suddenly lose control wall of tires will help stop you to go any further. Sure it will stop you but it doesn’t mean it won’t hurt. The shock from the bump will bring shivers from your head to your toes so being a bit careful would not hurt. An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.

The go-kart all in all consists of the frame, gasoline powered motor, bucket seats, leather belts, and wheels. Sounds easy to drive don’t it? Wait till you get on one and start hitting those curves. The trick is if one a good turn and be able to maintain a fast pace you should shift your body wait towards the curve you trying for. So for a left curve you should lean to your left and for a right curve you should lean towards the right.

Beginners like myself will love this track. Since the track is wide, I drove fast (but not fast enough) and drifted on some turns. It's quite easy to drift since most rented go karts have worn out tires.

Of course even if the track is wide drivers should exercise caution. Before our turn, there was a girl who hit the wall pretty hard. Her helmet even cracked on the impact. So it is just proper that they require helmets and suits. They also require drivers to wear closed shoes, since slippers can sometimes get stuck on pedals.

Some tips:

  • For kids and short adults like me, take the carts with throw pillows on the seats. It will help you reach for the gas and the breaks.
  • Before actually getting on the cart, try your helmet on. Test it. Try jumping up and down and banging your head left to right. If it slips forward or backward, then try a different helmet. It'll be hell irritating trying to fix your head gear when it takes all of your arm strength to keep the wheels straight.
  • Don't wear a scarf or anything that can get entangled in any part of the contraption (the cart, yes). True story: some stupid girl decided it was cool to wear a scarf on the cart. She ended up getting a near death experience. She was rushed to a local, not-so nearby hospital where they treated her for accidentally hanging herself.
  • Be sure you don't leave your common sense behind when you press on the gas.
  • Tell your mom and dad you love them before signing the Waiver.
Chilling out before the kart racing
